graphics.com redesigned

After the usual hurdles and hiccups, graphics.com's redesign is finally complete, and I'd first like to thank everyone who was involved in this project. So, thanks to all the editors, designers, and developers who worked very hard to make this happen.

The challenge with this particular redesign had to do with the dual role of the site. Graphics.com is its own site with its own audience within the graphics.com network. At the same time, it's the flagship site for the whole graphics.com network. So, we had to figure out a way for the site to retain its own identity and feature its own content, while making sure it functions as a gateway to the other graphics.com network communities.

I'd like to share with you a few of the changes we've made to help achieve this goal.

  1. Top right corner showcases and links to member work. Right now it features a few designs from the graphics.com galleries, but in time, we will also feature work from the rest of the graphics.com network community.

  2. graphics.com network headlines offer real-time updates of the three latest headlines on STEP, DGM, and GDF Blogs. Rolling over each headline will popup the article's description.

  3. We've even added a section that displays the latest discussion threads from graphics.com forums, GDF, and TCF.

And, as part of this effort to create a more cohesive and distiguished network, there's going to be more collaboration among the graphics.com network sites.

In December, voting will begin for the first ever STEP Design 100 Readers' Choice Award. The top few hundred Design 100 entries will be upload to a gallery on graphics.com. There you will be able to select your favorites. The top five vote getters will be featured along with the Design 100 winners in the March/April 2007 STEP Design 100 annual.

The graphics.com network is rapidly evolving and expanding, and now the framework has been put in place to start bringing the pieces together—and adding more! So look for more exciting graphics.com network developments in the near future.

Thanks!
-Steve
