The Perfect Book For Your Valentine
Yes, another book from Chronicle Books was sent to me. This one is beautiful and is a great book to get for the holiday of love - Valentine's Day.
The book is called, This is for You, by Rob Ryan, who is known as the "Prince of Papercuts". This work certainly proves that he is the prince.
The cover alone for this book is worth framing. It's all in red and a perfect Valentine.
This is for You contains 100 and more "whimsical, inspiring, and imaginative" papercut illustrations and poems. Each page could be used as card in itself, even those of loneliness and woe. These images are cut from a single sheet of paper from the artist who is finally receiving accolades and wide distribution in the US.
Ryan's papercuts have been used in Vogue, through collaborating with designer Paul Smith, and also have been featured on numerous book covers. Ryan also has a blog that talks about and shows more of his work.
The pages of this book look like woodcut valentines and can be used as inspiration for other woodcut artists and those of us who just need some creative diversion.
This is for You is a great addition to anyone's book collection and each page is a conversation piece. Get it.
