A Creative's Eye Exam
I've always been fascinated by optical illusions. I've never been able to create one myself, but I marvel at those constructed by those who can. Recently, I came across some optical illustions, some classic, some rather new, and wanted to share some of them with you. As designers who look at a computer screen all the time, I think it's good to exercise the mind and eyes during the day.
So, first of all, we have the portrait-in-a-portrait illusion. These are always fun to look at since there are multiple images in them that, upon a second glance or two, seem to pop out. Can you see the horse in the old man's beard and the ships and native Americans in the Columbus portrait?

Then there those positive/negative space images, black and white, that usually show dual images in, well, black and white. I like these too. They're simple yet effective. The elephant with the legs always messes me up.

And how about those trippy, psychedelic illusions that seem to have the old rods and cones working madly. These opticals seem to spin or move on their own. Love those!
These eye exercises are fun and probably healthy for the eyes and brain. You know what they say about keeping the mind active so as not to get Alzheimer's. You never know...
So, consider making some of your own for fun or exercise and let me know what you come up with.
