Dynamic Graphics "Designing for the Mobile User" webcast

I watched the webcast today. Or shall I say, listened. The screen shots didn't update automatically. I did the test prior to the webcast and my system passed with flying colors. When I hit F5 to refresh, I lost the sound while the page was loading the image, although I have a cable connection. These tech glitches aside, the webcast was very informative and worth the time. I signed up for the rest of the webcasts offered.

The speaker was Jared Benson from Punchcut. The first thing I liked about him is that he spoke very clearly which is a big plus for this type of event. He was obviously knowledgeable and the presentation was well organized. There was some time for questions but not enough. I wish that part was longer because the questions asked dealt with specific practical questions that designers have. As Jared Benson said there aren't many forums and blogs that concentrate on the needs of the designers working for mobile devices. Unfortunately, he only mentioned Idlemode.com as a source for more information on designing for mobile devices. Feel free to share other resources.

Lubina,

nice post!

Just wanted to let you know that Dynamic Graphics magazine will be responding to all the questions that Jared was unable to answer during the webcast on the DG website. They're also going to post all resources that Jared recommends in regards to designing for the mobile user. You can check back in a couple of days for that information.

Also, anyone who missed the webcast can view it on demand (soon) at http://www.dynamicgraphics.com/webcasts

I attended the event and had no technical troubles using Firefox. The presentation worked best for me when Jared grounded his comments with real-world examples, which he did more in the second half of the event. On a whole, a worthy start to what looks like a promising series of events.

I couldn't see any of the slides through any of the presentation, even though my system passed the tests before the presentation began. I was running the latest version of Firefox on WinXP. It was pretty annoying, and without anything to look at, I couldn't focus on what Jared was trying to say and didn't end up getting anything out of it. It's too bad, because it's an important topic.
